Bio for nan
Hi everyone, I would like to thank you all for coming to my mothers service. Many people might not remember me from when i lived in harbour breton, but i left at a very young age. My name is Sharon Martell and I am one of her daughters. It’s a great sadness for our family members who could not be here, my brother Jerome, Junior, Deb, Denise, grandchildren and of course her brothers and sisters who couldn't attend.
In the last couple of days I couldn't thank my brother Jerome, Jimmy, sister-in-laws Brenda and Barb, nieces Rebecca, Nina and Jamie-lee and good friend Shirley Roberts and especially all Spencer Funeral Home and staff and of course Father David Joy for the wonderful service.
My mother loved everyone in her family, Eldred Piercey and his daughters and Eldreds grandchildren. These are some of the things i can tell you about my mom, as some of you may know:
She enjoyed visits from her family
Seeing the south coast riders coming up on there bikes
Her evening fire pit sitting around with close friends and family
Her dart league
Playing bingo
Playing cards with her friends Rita and Larry Morris, Gloria and Edgar Morris
Her gardening
Enjoyed me coming home every year in the summer for two weeks visit
When we grand-falls or gander with Brenda and Jerome or Me when I was visiting she always said i don't need much today because i don't have much money but she always came back with a truck load. My niece Rebecca told me while I was writing this bio today that her father Jerome always said it would take an hour just to unload mom's stuff even though she said she didn't need much. Sebastian always enjoyed his road trips with his great grandmother and enjoyed the laughs and now he sure misses those trips with great nan.
Brenda told me last night a funny story about my brother Jerome, my sister in law Brenda that they would be driving to Gander or Grand-falls and Jerome would always have funny things to say to make us all laugh, but the best one is when he locks the windows in the truck and breaks wind and brenda and mother would be gasping for some air because it smells so bad and Jerome always thought it was funny to him but not so much to them. But she always said she loved her road trips.
This one is about her great grandson Reid, he somehow knows when she is here in harbour breton and finds her and gives her a hug to say hi and she always made sure Reid, Riley and Sebastian gets there $5. She always said Reid can smell her when she's here in harbour breton.
She also made sure that when she was down here she always had to pop in to the garage to see Jimmy and if he was going home for lunch, if not she would always go and pick up something for him for his lunch before she left and go back to hermitage
When Bubby and Dylan was young and mother would come down from St. Albans to spend a week or two she would enjoy watching a movie on Saturday night and a lunch with Bubby and Dylan her grandsons…
When Rebecca was younger like 15 or 16 mom would always sneak her a couple smokes on the sly of Brenda and Jerome because they didn’t no she smoked at the time.
Rebecca also enjoyed her nan comming for visits when she was younger and sleeping in the bed with her and nan pushing over over because her bum was always stuck out and pushing her off the bed.
A few years ago for Christmas she gave Jamielee a ring of hers with some pops she told her that now she had something special of hers to remember her by when she was gone
She would always make sure we had pies and cookies for Christmas time and always would say when she brought it down now you don’t forget to save my trays
Some memories from her brother joe
Just a few fond memories of my sister Jude, her and I are two and half years apart in age, she was the oldest, I remember her looking after us, when Mom was sick and in the hospital, and the old man was fishing, she was the oldest at the time, and took care of us, practice for the future she had six kids ,she was a great Mom. She also helped us gather twigs and branches, us kids always help to gather wood, for the stove, if you wanted to keep warm…one time we went sliding, and Jude was with us ,we took the old mans wood slide, we used to slide down off Big Knob, but we broke it and we figured we would get a licking, but we were lucky, the old man wasn’t too happy’ but no licking, I got a job in Hbr Breton and I stayed with Jude, well that didn’t last too long, because the job didn’t either, that’s a story for another time….I saw my sister off and on over the years ,wish it had been more. The last time we were together was at my cottage, we had a great time, talking, some laughs, playing horseshoes ,we did some catching up…after that ,we talked on the phone every week. I’m going to miss her calls, the last words I said to my sister is I love you…
