Obituary for Sidney Robert Rideout

Sidney Robert Rideout
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the Promotion to Glory of Sidney Robert Rideout. Sidney passed peacefully away on February 27, 2017 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Sidney was born in Seal Cove, Fortune Bay to Curtis and Margaret Rideout on January 22, 1938 and married Shirley Bungay on November 26, 1959. Together they were blessed with seven children but early in their marriage they were heartbroken by the loss of their firstborn son, Hughie. Sidney was employed as a logger his entire life and worked hard to provide for his wife and children. When Sidney was not cutting logs to make a living he continued to do it as a hobby and even in retirement, found great satisfaction in cutting logs to heat their family home.

Sidney had a deep love for the Lord and as a member of The Salvation Army he served his Master as a Sunday School Teacher and Corps Cadet Councillor where he had a great influence on many young people through his teaching of God's Word. Sidney was also a faithful member of the Men's Fellowship and a regular attendee of Divisional Men's Camps and Rallies. He also used every opportunity to witness for his Lord and was a great encourager to anyone and everyone who was privileged to share in conversation with him. One wasn't in conversation with Sidney very long before it would turn to spiritual matters and ultimately you knew that he was concerned about your soul.

Deeply missed and remembered by wife, Shirley; children, Garry (Thelma), Alverda (Adolph), Lorraine (Gary), Darlene (Rex), Scott (Michelle) and Paul (Kelly); grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer), Curtis (Jenna), Jennifer (Ben), Matt, Janelle, Josh, Nathan, Jessica, Kelsie and Andrew; great grandchildren, Sadie and Grace; brothers, Roy (Audrey), Allan (Margaret); sisters, Lydia, Nita (Bert), Irene and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Margaret Rideout and son, Hughie Rideout.

Visitation took place at the Salvation Army Citadel on Wedneday, March 1, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm and Friday, March 3, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon.

The Celebration Service for Sidney took place on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1:30 pm at The Salvation Army Seal Cove Fortune Bay Citadel with the Family officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Seal Cove.
