Obituary for Cherry Lillias Buffett

Cherry Lillias Buffett
Passed peacefully at James Peyton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Cherry Lillias Buffett, age 94 of St Alban’s, NL.

She leaves to mourn ten children to whom she adored: Marjorie Tiessen (Rick) of Ottawa, ON, Elizabeth (Bet) MacDonald (James Lepine) of Ottawa ON, Linda McDonald (Andre St-Clair), Ottawa, ON, Jim Buffett (Donna), Milltown, NL, Wanda Willcott (Chris), St Alban’s, NL, Norma Organ (Everest), Labrador City, NL, Ray Buffett (Louise), St Alban’s, NL, Bernice Dewland (Job), Labrador City, NL, Paulette Buffett (Glenn Lilly), St Alban’s, NL, Roberta Collier (Gilbert), St Alban’s, NL, a large circle of 23 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Phillip Buffett, their baby daughter Jane, five siblings and their spouses, Melvin Hillier (Pansy), Hubert Hillier (Violet), Leslie Hillier (Isabel), Norman Hillier and her identical twin sister Pearl Hickman (Herbert). She was also predeceased by one sister-in-law Eva Anderson and husband John of Port-Aux-Basques, NL and grandsons Gerald Piercey, Head of Bay D’Espoir and Burton Winters of Nain, Labrador.

Her life took her from her hometown of Lamaline to Grand Bank, Port-Aux Basques, Head of Bay D’Espoir, to Toronto, Milltown and St Alban’s. She was a dedicated mother and friend to all. She loved being a mom, knitting, playing cards with her homecare workers and 50 Plus friends, bingo and good company. She was a very independent and strong person and lived alone (with some home care assistance) up until a fall that hospitalized her almost three weeks ago.

She will be truly missed by everyone that knew her. When taunted by her size she would always reply, “If you put me on Pearl’s shoulders, I would be taller than any of you.” She would always say that she has more friends up there now than she has down here, therefore, we know she’s now in good hands. Fly with the angel’s mom – you will forever be in our hearts.

Visitations took place at Spencer’s Funeral Home at St. Alban’s on Thursday, August 3 from 1pm to 2pm for family viewing only; from 2pm to 4pm for public viewing; from 6:30pm to 7pm for family arriving; and from 7pm to 9pm for public viewing.

Visitations took place at Christ Church, Milltown on Friday, August 4 from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm for public viewing.

Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00am at Christ Church, Milltown with Rev. Roy Simms officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Head of Bay D’Espoir.
