Obituary for Peter John Power

Peter John Power
It is with great sadness that we must announce that John Power, passed peacefully away in his home surrounded by his family and friends on the 22nd of March, 2023 at the age of 57.

John was diagnosed with ALS in December of 2020. He accepted this disease as it was and made the best of the remaining time he had. “It is what it is, nothing I can do about it. …so I will make the best of it”. And John did just that, he continued to have a positive outlook even on his worst days.

John will forever be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He shared many trips to his cabin at Barachois where he enjoyed the company of his family. The endless hunting memories he shared with his brothers, sister and nephews, were deeply cherished. He was also an active and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, an organization who will remember him for his devotion and commitment. John worked many years at The Coaster, a job he held with much pride and was very dedicated to .The last few years of his life he worked with the Department of Highways; it was here that his health started to affect him, but being the dedicated person he was he continued working until he could no longer do so.

John is leaving behind with fond memories his siblings; Elizabeth, Brendon (Eva), Jerome (Yvonne), all at Harbour Breton, George (Alice) at Nova Scotia, Eric (Judy) at Grand Falls Windsor and Carmelita (Kathy) at St.John’s; a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved John very much.

John is predeceased by his parents, Dave and Mary Power, brother in law, James Warren, great nephew, Samuel and great niece, Harlyn.

Visitation was held at Spencer’s Funeral Home on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm and on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Funeral Service took place on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church at Harbour Breton with Father David Joy officiating. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Harbour Breton.

Until we meet again John and we hope you will greet us in heaven with your usual saying…”This is your favourite brother/uncle here!”
