Obituary for Garfield Frank Taylor

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garfield Frank Taylor on March 21, 2023. He passed peacefully away at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor surrounded by his family.

Garfield was always there to lend a helping hand, and a friend to so many. He also loved his family and always spoke of them with a smile. Especially his three Grandsons also known as “Pop’s Buddies”. No matter where he travelled in Newfoundland, he always came across someone he knew. A lot of those friendships were made during his 32 years of working for the Department of Highways.

Left to mourn his loving wife of 42 years, Ruby (Cox); daughter, Rosalind(Ken) at Gander; son, Christopher (Lacey) at Elliott’s Cove, Random Island; special grandsons, Andrew, Cameron and Cayden, whom he cherished with all his heart; brother, Tom (Jocelyn) at Foxtrap; sister, Bessie (John) at Burin; special nephew whom he always thought of as a brother, Ashley (Karen) at Kelligrews; mother in law, Jane Cox at Botwood; brothers in law, Russell (Donna), Carl (Linda) and Dwayne (Pheobe); sisters in law, Elaine (Trevor) and Lorraine (Jamie); uncles, Frank Banfield and Norman Cox; as well a large number of nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

Garfield is predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Jane Taylor and father in law, Samuel Cox.

A special thank you to the Nurses and Staff of General Surgery at James Paton, 4 North B at Health Science, Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Centre for the wonderful care over the last 10 months. Also, to Dr. House and Staff at the Cancer Clinic at Central Newfoundland Health Care Centre, the Nurses at the ICU and the Carmelite House who made his last days as comfortable as possible.
