Obituary for Margaret Ann Day

Margaret Ann Day
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Margaret Ann Day announce her sudden passing at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, NS on August 13, 2020.

Left to mourn with joyful and loving memories, her husband, Allan Day of Harbour Breton, NL; son Allan Jr. (Tracy) of Dartmouth, NS; daughter-in-law, Joyce Skinner, Harbour Breton, NL; grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) of Stephenville, NL, and Nathaniel and Hannah Day of Dartmouth, NS; great-grandson, Brier Day of Stephenville, NL; sisters, Jean Day of Harbour Breton, NL and Barbara Williams of George’s River, NS; and brothers, Ken Sheppard (Marion) of Rencontre East, NL and Bert Sheppard (Maureen) of St. John’s.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Leslie George and Blanche Sheppard, her cherished son, Vernon, and brothers, Jack (Grace) and Warren (Dorothy) Sheppard.

Margaret was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was there to lend a caring hand and to watch over her family and friends. Margaret was a mother-figure to many, with a thoughtful and caring heart; she would do absolutely anything for anyone. As an experienced woman, she was especially remarkable in her cooking, her dedication to community groups and her faithfulness to the St. Bartholomew’s Church. Margaret treasured her entire family and as a dedicated wife to Allan, she was always by his side. Especially loved was her role as Aunt Ninny/Nan/Big-Nan and she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandson with every ounce of her love, pride and joy.

Always with a big smile and a kind heart, Margaret would go out of her way for anyone to bring them joy and comfort and always had a story to tell. She was the strongest woman many of us will have ever known, and she was beautiful inside and out. Margaret leaves behind a large circle of family, friends, community-group members and neighbors for whom she cared for deeply. Taken too soon, her memories will live on in the hearts and laughter of everyone she encountered. She will be missed beyond words and loved every day.

“And from a better place, a great woman will watch us now and want for us to be happy and full of the love she gave us”

Private Family Funeral Service took place at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church at Harbour Breton on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Vallis officiating. Inurnment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Breton.
