Obituary for Phillip George Hickey

Phillip George Hickey was born in Corbin, NL on August 31st, 1941 to Hannah Mary and George Hickey, later of Belleoram, NL.

George married the lovely Sylvia Hardiman on November 11th, 1965. Together with much laughter and love, they raised three wonderful children; Duane, Tina and Darrell. George spent most of his life at sea. He started fishing at an early age and his love for boats enabled him to pursue a career on the water. One of his greatest achievements was reaching the rank of Captain within the Canadian Coast Guard, although he would often say his friendships are what made it all worthwhile.

George had a zest for life and no day was wasted. Although he was a hard worker George found time to enjoy each moment. His passions included playing guitar, singing, woodworking, gardening and especially playing cards. He was also a faithful member of the L.O.L. for 50 plus years.

George became a friend to whomever crossed his path. His smile and laughter will be greatly missed by all.

George is predeceased by his parents, Hannah Mary and George Hickey; sister and brother in law, Lenora and Jack Savoury.

Leaving to mourn are his loving wife, Sylvia; children, Duanne (Laura), Tina and Darrell; grandchildren, Angela (Corey), Suzanne and Garrett (Wendy); great grandchildren, Owen, Nathan, Addison,
Sheila and Ava; brother, Pious (Wilma); sisters, Madeline (Kevin) and Mary (Newman); plus a large circle of relatives and friends.

Funeral Service took place on Friday, September 7th, 2018 at 11:00 am from St. Lawrence Anglican Church at Belleoram with Rev. Tryphena Vallis officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Belleoram.
