Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander on August 26th, 2018, Mrs. Alma Miles of Pool’s Cove in her 89th year.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Alfred Savoury; husband, Frank Miles; siblings, Angus, Geoffrey, Percy, Vida, Mildred and Sadie.

She leaves to mourn her loss: sister, Lavinia Rose of Hammonds Plains, NS; children, Ruth (Henry) Trimm at Grand Bank, Mabel (Ronald) Dicks at Stanhope, Oral (Janet) Miles at Pool’s Cove, Wanda (Glenn) Giles at Lower Sackville, NS, Valerie (David) Diamond at Botwood; grandchildren, Kimberley, Sharon, Cindy, Shane, Jeanette, Jessicia, Katlyn, Adam and Andrew; great grandchildren, Tyler, Sophie, Natalie, Caleb, Farah, Jovie, Lucas, Logan, Lexie, Nathan, Deserie and Raelynn; special nephew, Cyril (Lorraine) Savoury at Foxley River, PEI; special niece, Marie (Gordon) Caines at Pool’s Cove; a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Alma was a hard worker. When her husband passed away she was left with five children; four of whom were still at home, ranging from two and one half to fifteen years of age.
She refused any suggestion of adoption and was determined to do anything necessary to raise her children and keep them together.

She grew her own vegetables, picked berries, and had her own dory and chain saw to provide firewood.

She loved her children and in spite of living on a widow’s allowance, she always managed to give her children and grandchildren gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Never short of food particularly in later years, she gave freely to anyone she saw in need.

Two of her great passions were her love for God and church and shopping.

When she departed this life she was surrounded by her five children as well as other family and friends. Her memory will certainly bring a smile and a tear to many people for a long time to come.

Viewing took place at the Pentecostal Church in Pool’s Cove on Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Funeral Service was conducted by Pastor Jamie Ings on Wednesday, August 29th, at 2:00 pm and interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Pool’s Cove.
